π Welcome to Barrowell.org: Keeping Our Community Safe, Included, and Informed
Welcome to the online home of the Barrowell Green community! We exist proudly to serve the residents, visitors, and wonderful wildlife of our unique neighborhood. Nestled on the edge of the New River near Winchmore Hill, our neighborhood is a designated 'Quiet Zone'βhighly valued by our members as a rare, peaceful sanctuary within the bustling London Borough of Enfield.
Our passionate community and dedicated supporters work hard to protect both our built and natural environments, ensuring our neighborhood evolves beautifully for everyone.
Right now, our community is coming together to tackle urgent challenges, protect our vulnerable neighbours, and celebrate our green spaces. Explore our active groups below to see how you can get involved!
π The Barrowell Parking Committee: Standing with Barrow Close
The parking landscape in our neighborhood has radically changed due to failed local planning policies, commercial overspill from Green Lanes, and traffic restrictions on the Barrowell Green Bridge.
Right now, Barrow Close is facing an unprecedented parking crisis. Our narrow residential cul-de-sac has been overwhelmed by massive commercial vehicles, unofficial HMO overcrowding, and business parking. This gridlock is causing severe safety hazards, blocking vital access for essential medical carers, and trapping our elderly and frail residents.
Working hand-in-hand with the Barrow Close Residents Association, we have formed a special Parking Committee. We have launched a formal petition to Enfield Council and the Riverside Group, demanding immediate commercial enforcement and free dropped kerbs to restore safety and access to the Close. We are hosting a series of community meetings to finalize our next legal and localized steps.

π± The Environmental Working Group: Protecting the New River
Our unique natural ecosystem needs our help. In response to a series of recurring environmental hazards along the New River, we have formed a dedicated working group to push local authorities for lasting solutions.
Our immediate focus is tackling the rise in pests caused by littering and excessive duck feeding, alongside the severe fly-tipping (including tyres and household waste) triggered by illegal commercial skip bins placed on the Barrowell Green Bridge. The working group meets monthly to review data and plan direct action with the Environment Agency and Enfield Council. [1]

π» The Garden Club: Cultivating Our Green Spaces
Even while we tackle local challenges, we continue to celebrate the natural beauty that makes our 'Quiet Zone' so special. A group of local green-fingered members has recently launched an exciting cutting exchange! Residents can view an ongoing list of available donor plants, share cuttings from their own gardens, and help keep Barrowell Green blooming.
